Trained and raised with the knowledge that she would be sold at an auction, Violet, a surrogate, is purchased by a duchess who lives in the Jewel, the wealthiest of five circles in the Lone City. Violet is shocked when her new mistress treats her more like an animal than a human, and begins to reject her position of servitude, especially when she finds herself caught in a forbidden romance.

The Jewel is a fast-paced fantasy novel that contains:

• Cruel treatment toward the main character and others
• Kissing, making out, and a brief, un-descriptive sex scene
• Full nudity
• Violence (slapping and choking; some girls’ memories are forcefully removed via surgery)
• Girls are given drugs and medically impregnated
• Reference to someone dying from smoking
• Characters drink champagne, and one gets drunk on alcohol

  1. I purchased a copy after I saw the gorgeous cover. But now that you said the book contains violence, drugs, etc., I'm not sure if the book is my kind of tea.
