While Reyes' energy is split between survival and finding an escape, the rest of his being is focused on the girl of his imaginings and wondering why he knows who's booked on the southward train. As circumstances conspire against him, he begins to realize that things are not as they seem.

Brighter Than the Sun is narrated by Reyes and tells his story from the day he first saw Charley to a moment of significance to him in First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, book 1). While the logical place to read this installment based on chronological order would be between books 1 and 2, there are some mild spoilers to book two's premise in Brighter Than The Sun. It also contains a heavy hook regarding a beloved character's future.

Brighter Than the Sun includes:
  • Profanity (D*mn, p*ssed, h*ll, b*tches, *ss, F word)
  • Death/killing
  • References to broken bodies
  • Many references (some in more detail) to the physical and sexual abuse of a child (this includes but is not limited to a rape attempt, references to fondling of both a male and a female child's privates by adults, sexual abuse of children by adults of the same and different genders, references to beatings, drugs, and various methods of restraints/manipulation.)
  • Minors making out (kissing, rubbing, groping, grabbing, etc)
  • Detailed references to aroused male and female anatomy (use of c word in it's anatomical capacity)
  • Sex scene (detailed, but maybe not as thorough as those seen in a typical Charley Davidson novel)
  • Lots of prison/prisoner violence is referenced.
  • References to childbirth
  • Ghosts, Satan, Hell, Heaven
