Todd and Viola find themselves stuck on two different sides of politics called the Ask and the Answer that are on the brink of going to war with each other.
• Profanity (“eff” and “effing” are used in place of the F-word, godd*mn, and Jesus’s name is abused)
• Lots of cruel violence
• Women and children are tortured
• Brief reference to two teenagers kissing while naked
The Ask and the Answer is just as intensely gritty as the first book, and has a slightly darker tone. A scene where a child is tortured is especially horrifying and emotional. Fans of The Knife of Never Letting Go should not be disappointed with this sequel.
