Ali has been missing for years, but she suddenly begins dropping notes signed “A” in her old friends Hanna, Emily, Spencer, and Aria’s lives, letting them know that she is perfectly capable of exposing each of their secrets at any moment.

It includes:

• Profanity (many uses of the F-word)
• Sexuality (sexual discussions throughout, and a few near–sex scenes)
• Making out with a teacher
• Bulimia
• Brief teenage drug use
• Stealing
• Drinking
• Smoking
• Homosexuality (two girls make out)

How would I describe Pretty Little Liars? A modern-day, teen-centered mystery chockfull of inappropriate content and narrated by a handful of terrible role models. Sara Shepard’s writing is very suspenseful and will keep readers turning the pages, but this first installment in a long series is definitely not for anyone under fifteen years old.
