Ever since she was a young girl, Nyx has been prepared to marry a demon known as the Gentle Lord on her seventeenth birthday, after a deal her father made with him when Nyx was just an infant. But Nyx knows the monster is anything but gentle, and all these years she’s been training herself, readying to meet him—and kill him.
• Lots of references to sex
• One implied sex scene
• Partial nudity
• Some violent descriptions and death threats
• A seventeen year old drinks wine
• Some disturbing scenes (touching a dead person’s tongue; demons crawl over a character and try to possess her)
Cruel Beauty is a sweeping and luscious young adult retelling of Beauty and the Beast, told in first-person. Nyx is a strong young woman who is faced with the task of defeating her new husband, while at the same time feeling guilty for giving into her deepest desires. This standalone is not very content-heavy, but the plot is darkly written, and the abrupt, shocking ending may not apply to everyone’s liking.
