Everyone thinks Jacob’s grandfather is crazy, what with his tales of powerful children living on a secluded island and crazy collection of vintage photographs. But the stories Jacob knows all too well are about to come to life for him.

It includes:

• Frightening/disturbing photographs
• Profanity (godd*mn, sh*t, *sshole, p*ss, pr*ck, and a middle finger)
• Reference to nudity
• Reference to Jacob’s grandfather being an adulterer
• Physical attraction between characters
• Kissing
• Violence (some bloody scenes, but no gore)
• Drinking, smoking, chewing tobacco, and a mention of “pothead cousins”
• Raising a person from the dead
• A grotesquely described monster

This young adult novel is mysterious and set in a fascinating, paranormal-based world. It would be appropriate for younger teenagers or preteens if the pages weren’t littered with swear words, smoking, and drinking, but it’s up to the parents to decide whether or not that ups the age limit.
