Todd Hewitt lives in Prentisstown where everyone can hear each other’s thoughts. All he wants to do is escape the never-ending Noise surrounding him, but with his thirteenth birthday approaching in one month’s time, when he will become a man, Todd is suddenly thrown into a wild and grisly adventure as he literally runs for his life.

This is the first book in a young adult dystopian trilogy. It includes:

• Lots of gruesome violence and killing (part of a man’s face is torn off, beating and stabbing—as well as killing—children, broken bones, snapped necks, crushed eyeballs, and blood)
• Brief reference to sex
• Partial nudity
• Brief reference to castrating animals
• Some smoking and drinking by adults
• Profanity (one F-word, godd*mn, many uses of “eff” and “effing,” and other abbreviated and misspelled swear words)

The Knife of Never Letting Go is a fast-paced, action-packed thriller. It’s heavy on the violence and language (though most of the swear words are abbreviated) and ends on a cliffhanger that will make readers eager to pick up the sequel.
