To a God Unknown explores the life of Joseph Wayne as he leaves behind his father's land to make a place for himself in California. Together with his family, Joseph establishes a ranch and has a supernatural, religious experience with the nature on his land, particularly the great tree under which he builds his house. The story explores the pursuit of passion and worship as Joseph and his family struggle with the relationship between man, God, and the earth.

A short read, To a God Unknown looks at spirituality and its role between nature and humanity. Pagan beliefs, Native American religions, Catholicism and Protestantism all intermingle and conflict with one another in this piece as Joseph discovers the consequence of worshiping the unknown.

Readers should be aware the book contains mild language, a brief sex scene, and graphic descriptions of suicide.
