Book Review: The Ruins of Gorlan (Ranger's Apprentice, Book 1), By John Flanagan

The Ruins of Gorlan: Book One
By: John Flanagan

All that Will ever wanted in life was to follow in his father's footsteps and become a warrior. However, when battle school refuses his application, he finds himself apprenticed to a mysterious and possibly magical Ranger. With his fate decided one question remains: What is it Rangers do?

The Ruins of Gorlan is an enjoyable read that ends when
it's finally getting started.

Australian Cover Art
It contains:
  • extensive bullying
  • beating (kid on kid)
  • animal/creature attacks
  • killing
  • injuries
  • and a kiss

The Ruins of Gorlan is best treated as a setup for the rest of an enjoyable series as it does not really provide a truly satisfying tale in and of itself. Recommended if you plan to read more than just the first book.
