The three Grace children were still trying to adjust to their new home, when strange noises in the walls lead them to a discovery that will forever change the way they see the world around them.

The Field Guide (Spiderwick Chronicles, Book 1) is a very short children's tale about three siblings who discover that there are fairies living all around them. The story
is enjoyable, but left me feeling as if I'd just read the beginning of a book and lost the middle and end. Parents should be aware that it contains remarks about a parent having left the family, false accusations, dead pets, references to a child breaking another child's nose in the past, pinching and some mildly scary moments.

The Spiderwick Chronicles is a series of five books followed by a spin-off series of three books called Beyond the Spiderwick Chronicles.

  1. I read this series all at once and enjoyed them. The audio version is great! The reader is Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker).

  2. I love the illustration they put in this book. I'm sure young readers will love it as I do.
